I firmly
believe that hands-on activities actively engage students in learning
and development not only of science knowledge but self-esteem as well.
Activities that ask students to develop concepts and to apply those
concepts provide a means of deeper knowledge and retention. Students
who are engaged in learning are more likely to have positive views
of science, school and themselves. At the same time, I strive to create
a comfortable and safe environment in my classroom and foster a sense
of community, where all opinions are accepted, not discouraged. I believe
that teachers must do all they can to build confidence, motivation
and independence in their students so they gain understanding of themselves
as a person as well as the material presented. |
